  1. 🔖 New post: Moving Targets → chrisburnell.com/article/moving-targets/ Taking the longwinded and scenic route, I explore how we can use ID attributes as a type of permanent sticky notes, using animation to enhance the reading experience, and other adventures to choose from
  2. I love reading and learning about new browser features—h/t @MicheBarks for css-irl.info/exciting-times-for-browsers-and-css/—and I was recently inspired to build something to track features important to me that was easy to use, understand, and maintain. No more fanfare, here it is: chrisburnell.com/feature-watch/
  3. New year, new logo chrisburnell.com/note/10000/ Celebrating hitting some personal milestones with a refresh to the ethereal Raven.
  4. 📦 Put together a plugin for @eleven_ty that combines 11ty.dev/docs/plugins/cache/ and Webmention.io and makes it (what I hope is) far less complicated to add cached Webmentions to your Eleventy website. chrisburnell.com/eleventy-cache-webmentions
  5. I wrote about how I manage colours on my website using CSS Variables, the cascade, and Bowhead. chrisburnell.com/article/deep-dive-into-colour/
  6. 📊 Wrote about caching webmentions, generating a collection of popular posts, and riding on the shoulders of giants on my @eleven_ty site. chrisburnell.com/article/time-to-cache-up/
  7. 📦 Packaged up a bit of SCSS I’ve been happily using into a thing called Bowhead (it’s a whale, but I totally swear the filesize is tiny) and I’d love your feedback! chrisburnell.com/bowhead/
  8. I must be in a bad mood this morning because @_iamarek told me, “you look like someone was using tabs” (instead of spaces) and I can't disagree
  9. Shoutout to the good ol' days when @ForgottenMG, @pwiddop, @redsoniafb and I would get amazing Malaysian food for lunch as the Ninja Turtles :')
  10. 📝 I wrote about a little @mixin I’ve been finding a lot of use and simplicity in recently that I'm calling the Sassy Lobotomised Owl: chrisburnell.com/article/sassy-lobotomised-owl
  11. Pig's Ear Beer Festival, third year going. As usual, couldn't be happier, but seriously missing @dletorey!
  12. 🥖 Made some bomb-ass warm and fluffy breadsticks last night. They were far more amazing than my terrible photo of them, honest. 🗒 Recipe here: chrisburnell.com/recipe/breaksticks
  13. Excited for @halfstackconf today! First conference with @dletorey where neither of us are organising too.
  14. Interesting. Everyone who insists I should be more involved and interested in politics seems to have a very specific context they want me to get involved in. Almost like they have an agenda and what I think doesn't actually matter to them, so long as I'm in their sphere. 🙉
  15. I came up with a wonky little technique for throwing up a quick “dark” theme on my website using CSS filters and wrote a bit about it: chrisburnell.com/article/the-flip-flop-technique
  16. Shout-out to @codefundio (codefund.io) for their fantastic service and above-and-beyond team. I cannot state strongly enough how kind and understanding they are—they get the highest possible recommendation from me!
  17. Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 Hope it's a good one, eh! 🍁
  18. I still fail to see what benefits arise from shortened variable names. Why is "currPag" preferable to "currentPage", "btn" preferable to "button"? Without context, I'm guessing what the author intended, and this only makes verbal discussions about it all the more difficult.
  19. A handful of my superpowers: * I always sit on the second sock when I sit down to put on the first. * I always check the time at 12:34. But what happens if my first superpower ever fails? Does my day shift enough to make me check at 12:33? I'm terrified to find out…
  20. I will be attending 2019.indieweb.org/online My first IndieWebCamp! Can’t wait.
  21. Overjoyed to be celebrating the greatest milestone of my life today. Eight wonderful years with my best friend, girlfriend, partner in crime, and love of my life, Rachel. Stoked for the next byte!
  22. I’m going to the Indigenous & Micropub #hwclondon Special! 🎉 Are you? hwclondon.co.uk/meetups/20190227
  23. Late night coding means I’ve managed to create a clear division between my website’s various post types. And alongside that, I’m now using NewBase60 for my shortened URLs, which happens for each of my posts automatically. 😌 (repc.co/t4yV1)
  24. I’m clearly cruising on a Chrono Trigger vibe because, again, I need to share some music by some unquestionably-talented musicians, @reubengingrich (reubengingrich.com/). But how can you not love “Secret of the Forest?” youtube.com/watch?v=alW3hvc3ViY
  25. Switched my main browser from Chrome to Firefox this week. Can’t say I miss anything in particular. Only gripe so far is having to change my muscle memory for keyboard shortcuts, which I’m sure will be a quick transition.
  26. This is seriously amazing. It deserves way more recognition than it has; @ContraReloaded mesh together some incredible talent and synergy. youtube.com/watch?v=pYgQEjcosP0
  27. Sadly, I won’t be able to attend, but if you’ve ever been curious about content ownership, IndieWeb, or new ways to tinker on your website, Homebrew Website Club London is unbelievably welcoming and inspired me a great deal. Highly recommended event! hwclondon.co.uk/meetups/20181212
  28. I gave a lightning talk in 2016 about writing readable and maintainable code, and @DvBerzon is doing some fantastic research in this area that really intrigues me. I’m eagerly waiting for the next phase of research and results! howreadable.com/
  29. I un-linked my Facebook account from Spotify a little less than a month ago. So here’s my year of music #SpotifyWrapped ☹️
  30. Super pleased to say that I just gave a short presentation about #indieweb to my team at work, and I didn’t butcher the explanation too badly, so everyone’s on-board! Feels great to be a part of this community and welcome new folks in. 😄
  31. Been looking forward to Pig's Ear Beer Festival since last year. I'm in heaven.
  32. At long last, I’ve managed to add the ability to edit my existing notes through my Micropub endpoint, and given my track record of totally making no mistakes, this is a good thing. #indieweb
  33. Listened to Hardwired, a new EP by @mitch_murder, just about all weekend, and I can’t recommend it enough! Check it out if you’re into punchy 80s synths mitchmurder.bandcamp.com/album/hardwired
  34. I’ve made an average of 1.498 commits/day to my website over the last 5.5 years. ~670 of those commits contained “fix” in the commit message. Do with that information what you will while I continue to endlessly chase my own tail.
  35. After basking in my 5th-level Sorcerer’s newfound ability to turn himself *INVISIBLE*, I wrote about part of my most recent project, BloodBuilder, a #Pathfinder character builder, and how I went about using Liquid to convert to/from Roman numerals. chrisburnell.com/article/numerals-romanticised/
  36. I’ve sat down with three developers this week to help them diagnose some errors, but as soon as I sat down the errors mysteriously vanished. Anyway, hit me up if you want a quote for me to come sit next to you. Cause of my, y’know, expertise.
  37. 📝 I wrote about a method I’ve been using to map SCSS variables to native CSS variables whilst providing a fallback when tying it all together with a @mixin. chrisburnell.com/article/variables-for-both/
  38. Learned today that the price to renew a domain I’ve owned for several years has increased by _ten times_ because it’s a “premium domain.” RIP nyer.audio
  39. Been waiting a while for this, and boy, does it ever deliver. open.spotify.com/album/2MdTsQBOs71AZuqETMyLY2
